Brief Description:  Windscreen fairing-6

Popped open the canopy and yet again it will not close—skirt won’t slide under the right side—left side now has enough clearance. I cut the fairing off of the right side even with the forward skin. I made up a spacer out of thin poster board—the spacer consisted of 5 layers, staggered so that that tapered toward the top. I taped this to the skirt, added blue tape and 1 layer of electrical tape, followed by clear packing tape. Cut some 1” strips, wet them and laid up two layers to extend the fairing over the skirt. I decided there was no use in spending the time to lay up any more glass, unless this spacer would give me some clearance for the skirt. While this was setting up, I sanded the fairing around the windscreen/forward skin. This part is looking pretty good. Pulled the red tape and now have a nice smooth edge. I believe it is ready for some slurry with micro to begin finishing it out. After several hours of sanding, the right side lower glass had set, so I popped open the canopy. Trimmed the fairing extension back just a bit to get a smooth edge. NOW the canopy will close—the skirt slides smoothly under the fairing. It probably has 1 thickness of poster board too much, but I’m moving on. Two layers of glass is not enough, but I’ll extend some layers when I form the fairing over the roll bar.
