Brief Description:  More panel prep for backup guage mounting

Today, I received a vertical card compass, now I have all 3 of the backup gauges and can continue with panel work. I checked proposed locations for depth to make sure nothing would interfere with the cross brace behind the panel—looks like the round gauges should fit just fine. I re-checked the measurements on the panel, then used an instrument layout template and 1/8” transfer punch to mark the center location for each instrument. I drilled the 3 locations to #40 followed by 1/8” using my drill press. I laid the instrument template over the center of each hole and inserted a 1/8” transfer punch to center the template. I clamped the template and panel together and center punched all of the mounting screw locations using another 1/8” transfer punch. I had previously used a ATS hole punch on some scrap, but the hole is slightly undersized for the A/S and altimeter, so decided to try using the fly cutter. I cut 3 holes in scrap before I got the cutter adjusted so that the instruments perfectly fit the hole. Sure spent a bunch of time and burned thru some good scrap to get the cutter adjusted for the desired result. Next session, I'll use the fly cutter on the panel.
