Brief Description:  Template for Radio Stack-1

I have just about reached the point in my build where I need to install the engine or avionics. I don’t really have the space in my present shop for the engine install, so I’ll go with avionics. I had previously taped cut out of radios, Dynon screen and some steam gauges to the panel blank to get some idea of where to place the items. I wanted the radio stack on the left so that tuning etc could be done with my non-flying hand. I also wanted the EFIS somewhat centered in the panel. My radio stack will be made up of a Garmin GTN650, ICOM A210 second radio and a Garmin GMA240 audio panel. The radio stack will determine placement of much of the remaining panel items. Because of the depth of the GTN650, vertical placement is critical in order for the rear of the unit to clear brace between the towers. Before I started cutting on the panel, I decided to fab a piece of panel to determine placement of the radio stack. I cut a piece of .040 to use as a template for the radio stack—match drilled it using the existing panel and smoothed the edges to approximate the area where the stack will be mounted. In the next several sessions I will determine location of the ICOM, cut the temp panel and install. Once location of the center radio is determined, the other 2 units should be easy to install.
