First meet legendary Roger, a national treasurer who has over 50 years of fiberglass and painting experience working on show cars with specialty on Corvettess.
He looked at the plans, directions, drawings and my fiberglass work on the canopy and said, nope this is not how it is done.
Basically he said when you join to things together like this you need to sand down the widths and fill back in with fiberglass. See diagram. Basically instead of just roughling up the plexiglass before fiberglassing, sand it down a bunch. Roger says 50% or more. I'm too worried to go that far so I've sanded enough to feel it.
Also note with this concave space on the canopy the line you end up with at the tape is much thinner. Thin is nicer and less fragile.
He said it could probably crack someday, and isn't near as strong as it would be if I had sanded down the plexiglass by 50% its thickness along the front edge and then filled in with fiberglass.
I removed the original tape. The edge is marginally okay. Hopefully this new process will make it better.
