It really is like Christmas opening presents. I used the bill or material and opened every bag, checked off its contents and stored parts on my shelves or in plastic boxes. The skins when up on some high shelves and on my table saw for safe keeping.
Inventory took me a week of messing around. I found every darn part except one firewall stiffener. I had an extra of one of the stiffeners, but was missing the correct one. Van's sent it right out. The firewall stiffeners are bent on purpose and I thought mine were damaged and almost ordered new ones. But then I figured it out.
Doing inventory is a good way to get familiar with all the parts. Also I build kits of some of the parts. If I can tell some parts all go together later, I put them in a plastic bag or together on the shelf for easy finding later. It works.
