Brief Description:  Spar - Tie Downs finished. Great

Working on the tie down made me feel like a real hacker. First the tie down is not flush with the ends of the doubler. And it is offset toward the bottom of the wing. This all seemed weird. And the spacers were rough to make. The 1 inch hole left narrown margins and they are impossible to get accurately in the middle. Then drilling the holes through the spacer, web and tie down were iffy because I had to drill the spacers first then the tie down and then match drill to line up. Worked okay. But when I put it all together it was a very tight fit And finally the bolts holding the hinge on the platenuts did not go in very easily. I even broke one off by just turning it. I had to drill out the hole a little larger and use Boelube. To get the right torque, I tightened the bolts all the way in till they stopped, then back them out a little. Finally I use the torque wrench to put them back in. This is a #3 both so I gave it only 25 in-lbs which is barely enough to merely turn the bolt against all the resistance of metal on metal in the hole. I've gotta order more bolts. I didn't have enough to finish after I broke one. Also I'll order the 'real' tie down loops. This finishes the front spars for now.
