I had several wooden workbenches similar to the EAA design that I have built and used in the past. But they are all 8' long and won't fit into this new 2-car garage. So I started shopping for garage cabinets and workbenches. I was lucky one day, when my wife for a Christmas present bought me the Grizzly Industries work bench.
For cabinets I considered wood, MDF, and metal. I final decided that my requirements were sturdy enough to hold tools and on wheels for mobility, The MDF cabinets did not seem sturdy enough to be put on casters and still hold tools. Grizzly has some nice wooden cabinets, but they are not mobile. I decided on the Gladiator series of cabinets from Whirlpool and sold at Sears, Home Depot and many retail outlets and on-line stores. They are grey and black so they match the floor, and very sturdy for holding heavy tools. And they have great wooden tops which gives extra work bench space when needed.
Final note, Gladiator makes a whole line of stuff for garages, so your kids and wife will be able to buy you something great for Christmas, Birthday's, Father's Day, etc.
