Brief Description:  Fwd Top Final Skin 3

Found a helper. Bob Mann. He flew up to Anacortes this morning. We will pound these rivets and fly for lunch to meet the other pilots.

We did the plan. Rivetted top down. I squeezed the forward edge on the firewall.

I found various ways to lay inside and get a bucking bar on most of the rivets. All the rivets we did were great. We bent one, so I drilled it out and re-rivetted it. Perfect.

Bob is high quality and watches out for details. He found a good rythym of removing clecoes, putting in a rivet, setting up and saying, "Ready". Then I'd put the bucking bar on the shop head and say, "Set" and when I was ready, I'd say, "GO". He pulled the trigger. Rivet set. He figured out a good 1.5 second duration. 3/32 rivets we used 30 psi. 1/8 rivets we used 40 psi. I oiled the rivet gun last night to ensure it was working smoothly. It was.

If you ever get passing gas without the riveter working, you need to lubricate it. Just squirt a bunch of oil in the air hole and pound wood for a few seconds to a minute. Mine is working great again.

There were 7 rivets I could not get a bucking bar on because of conjestion from nuts, bolts, rods, etc. They are shown below. Van's says to use pulled rivet. They sell a 7/64 flush head pulled rivet they say works great for this skin. So I'll put in 7 of them. Next the tip up canopy goes on.
