Brief Description:  Tail Installation for Final Time 6

To set the swing of the rudder I put blocks on the elevators that are 1 1/8 thick which is the clearance distance from the rudder per the plans. At first my rudder did not swing nearly enough. I had the bearings screwed in one turn to far. I let them all out on full turn and the rudder swings fine. I had a little interference with one bolt and the bottom of the rudder. I filed the end of the bolt off a little. No problem.

Recall I decided to use an internal stop instead of the metal stops per drawings. The internal stop I had already made didn't stop the rudder soon enough. It let the rudder swing to within an inch of the elevator. I decided this was too close. So I made a new rudder stop. With a lot of trail and error I got this one to stop the rudder just about perfect.

I also routed the tail light wires up and into the rudder. Plans say bring the wires up and in rather than straigt in because this changes a bending motion into a mere twist. And the twist isn't suppose to be so tough on the wires. I covered the wires with plastic protective covering and pulled them thru the bottom of the tail.
