Brief Description:  Baffle 21 Snorkle

I studied the drawings and looked at the two pieces of aluminum that will hold down the filter. I decided I could make one large piece of aluminum which would replace the structure of the ramp I trimmed off and hold down the filter. The yellow paper in photo shows a template.

I cut out a piece of 0.040 aluminum and made this piece. Seems really strong and stiff. I think it is fine. If I leave it like this I'll have to use a bolt on the rear corner instead of a rivet because this whole thing bolts together. The three rear holes will hold up the snorkle and then the side 6 bolts will add strength and hold the perimeter in place.

Then you can see where I will trim the lower cowl. The trimming is not to bad. There is still plenty of fiberglass material left.

I am debating on ordering a new ramp. I might. If I do I'll update this entry.

I received an email from Van's saying this looked okay. They sent me photos of other ways to do this.

SEE UPDATE. I didn't like it and ordered a new lower baffle.
