I'm adding a VOR antenna because I plan to have a Garmin 430 for certified IFR flying. I have a 430 now in my Cherokee and if I keep both planes I'll just install the frame in this RV and just unplug the 430 from the Cherokee and plug it into the RV when I fly it. 430's will do that and save $10k.
Anyway this VOR antenna needs to be grounded so I'm fastening it to the aluminum strips at the nutplates. Instructions say this is good grounding.
Instructions ask for a few holes right thru the bottom of the tip. So I did and will use flush #4 screws to hold it. Also I'm using #4 screws to hold the platenuts and antenna rather than riveting incase this ever needs to come out. I can't really see any down size to use a few #4X32 screws on a few platenuts.
The instructions are pretty detailed at explaining how wires to the lights need to be mounted in order to maximize effeciency of the antenna. So I will comply.
