Brief Description:  Finishing the Vertical Stabilizer

Finishing the Vertical Stabilizer (VS)

Long day – started out riveting the rear spar components and was have a heck of a time with the squeezer not working right. Screwed up the first 4 tries…. Ouch. Took my time and drilled them out without issue (nice that I could control that environment). Took a little break and read up on these longer rivets. Once I figured out the sweet spot with scrap and air pressure things started to move along.

Rear spar riveted, had to redo some of the flush rivets because of technique used with the back rivet set. (Duh) End result was very good.

Skeleton went together without issue and started on the skin. Skin flush went on great but re-did three rivet that were next to the rudder brackets – just didn’t like them. Ended up hand bucking those after several tries.

Guess I didn’t review the plan well – tonight (after the work) I noticed I was supposed to leave some open rivet areas for attachment points – guess I will be drilling out some tomorrow.
