Brief Description:  Installed the batteries

Running with only one battery just isn't an option in my book. I've decided my main battery will be an Odyssey 680 (16lbs) and the backup battery is a lithium Shorai LFX24A3-BS12 (4lbs) for a total of 20 pounds. I had almost considered two of the Shorai batteries to save weight, but don't yet trust the new lithium technology with my life, and also, the SeaRey, with the engine towards the rear, actually needs the weight of a heavy lead battery up front for a safe center-of-gravity.

The battery deck that comes with the SeaRey hull is inadequate even for one battery, in my opinion. There's been at least one case of a battery coming lose during a bad landing and breaking the leg of a pilot. I created a much stronger and larger battery deck, and fiberglassed it in over the original. I created 1" brackets to go around the parameter of the batteries to hold them in, but upon installation, I decided I wanted 2" brackets front and back, and used very large stainless bolts to hold it all in. Two massive 36" zip-ties will hold them down in place. I made the deck the right size to hold the batteries and all the relays and fuses that need to be as close to the battery as possible.
