Brief Description:  Secton 17, fitting and cutting turtle deck

I've done a lot of thinking and researching before carrying forth with this section, because it involves permanent cuts to an expensive part. I'm happy to report that all the cuts turned out beautifully, and I don't think the turtle deck could fit the hull any better than it does. I skipped around in section 17 to anything involving cuts, so I can get them out of the way. I then test fit the turtle deck and all the root support struction above it, to ensure the holes are just right.

I first found a template on the SeaRey Technical Site that diagrammed the cut and mentioned it would be 41" from the back of the turtle deck. That was exactly right. I first drilled a test hole, and when that looked right, I drew the outline of the template and cut it out with a Dremel. I then followed the manual's directions for the mid-support beam, and tested the fit with the root tube in place. The manual was very accurate as to the placement of the hole. I finally made the last cuts for the flap extension and another one for everything coming and going to the engine.

Early on in this section, the manual wants you to permanently rivet the turtle deck to the hull. I'm going to hold off on that as long as I can, because it will be difficult to work on anything behind the bulkhead once that's done.
