Checked the frame to ensure it was ready for riveting, I noticed a couple of places that needed some attention. After that I riveted the splice plates with the respective shims to the canopy frame and side rails. I have not riveted the 631A ribs to the back of the frame.
I turned my attention to the canopy latch mechanism I purchased from JD Air. It is an upgrade from the kit latch; it is a stronger latch system that can be modified for an external lock. I am not sure if I will install a key lock, but at least I have the option. Because this latch system requires that two slots be cut in the fuselage the associated plans have you build a mockup. The mockup is used as a template for cutting the fuselage skin. Here is Bruce Swayze's web site that shows how the mockup is used. Bruce installed the same kit on his RV-7
