Brief Description: Weekly wingtip and wiring update - 01
Much has been do since my last entry. I am just about finished with mounting the wingtips. The left tip is completed and the right one the epxoy is drying. Due to work space limitation I worked on the tips one at a time and then only one side.
With the tips on the wing I used epoxy to bury the rivet heads. I completed the left tip first as a learning step. I taped off the wing skin to protect it from the epoxy and sanding. After that cured I sanded it down and applied a second layer. Covering holes and indentations with epoxy seems to always take two applications. Satisifed with the process I put the first layer on the right tip and the bottom of the left tip. I pulled the left tip and set it bottom up on the work bench. Initial sanding on those two surfaces as well as finish sanding on the top of the left. Then applied second layers on the two surfaces.
Finished sanding the left bottom and right top, then applied the initial on the right bottom. That has been sanded and a second layer has been applied.
Along the way I finalized the lighting mounts in the wing tip. The access and mounting holes are drilled. I was going to use a reflector behind the lights but decided against it.
