Brief Description:  fuel tank pickup - 01

Started the day with the simple plan of installing the fuel pickup and the fuel level sensor in the right tank. The first step was to check the Ohms of the sender both at the empty and full level. Both read right on target of 32 Ohms empty and 240 full. So I moved on to the fuel pickup Really not a hard task to complete, but I made it hard.

Got the pickup put together and checked the fit. It seemed fine. So I went to torqure the fitting to 130 in lbs and realized I did not have the correct tool. I needed a 1/4 to 3/8ths coversion for the torque wrench. Stopped and headed off to the store to find said connector which went suprising well. Got back to the hangar and went back to work. Somewhere along the line I managed to put a crease in the tube (see image 1.) It wasn't too bad, but bad enough. So I took the pickup from the other wing (that I am not working on yet) and used it to get the right wing ready to seal. Got it ready to install which includes drilling the fitting for safety wire per Vans Service Bulletin. It is ready to safety, seal and install.

I spent the rest of the time getting used to my new tube bender and my new flaring tool. I made a few flares and bent scrape tubing to get familiar with the tools. Image three shows the new pickup next to the old one. It is ready for flaring and the cutting the pickup slots.
