I was not satisfied with the stability of the pitot tube mast. I decided to add an angle bracket to connect the pitot tube mast base to the wing rib next to it. I looked at several pieces of scrap angle aluminum but they were either too short or too thick for this application. I decided to fabricate mine from 0.050 sheet aluminum.
Image one shows the piece in place and already drilled to the rib. The photo was a little late in the process. Of course, I had to cut the sheet to size and form the angle. Next I mounted the pitot tube and slide the wing skin in place. I clecoed the rib to the skin to make sure everything was aligned. I clamped the angle in place and used a 90 degree drill to drill three rivet holes through the rib and the angle. After clecoing it in place, removing the clamps and the skin I checked the alignment. Took a second break to snap a photo and put the skin back on. With the skin back on I checked the alignment of the pitot tube one more time and drill the wing skin, pitot tube mast and angle together. The mast is now very solid.
