Brief Description:  Control column cont.

Guard weekend last weekend and people coming over tonight. Today will be a short day, but tomorrow will be an all day work-a-thon. Today I managed after fixing my mother-in-laws furniture to counter-sink and rivet the tops of center control section. As usual, after setting the counter-sink cage to the right depth the counter sink process went pretty fast and the rivets were 3-3.5 so I hand set them in just a few minutes. Easy work, the first picture is the top of the forward center section counter sunk ready to have nut-plates riveted and the second is the finished work.
Added later...
I had an opportunity to get back to the hanger, so went to work creating the web stiffeners and the control cover ribs. There are four ribs (you can see them in both pictures, they are blue) that needed some work. The two large ribs needed 1/4" holes drilled for bolts, rivet holes to align and drill, and nut plates to rivet. The two smaller ribs are riveted to the web on the back side of the center section. The web is just angle alum cut to the correct length and drilled to match the rivet holes on the center section. The web is riveted in place, but the smaller ribs are bolted in place with 515-8x8 screws. Of course, this means a k1000-8 nutplate has to be installed for each screw. I counter the front side of the web for flush mounted rivets as the front side of the web sits on the back side of the center section.
All the ribs have fuel and brake lines running through them, so bushings had to be installed. Three bushings per rib. I drilled those holes to size for the bushing (5/8, 1/2 and 7/16.) After all the drilling and riveting of nut plates I am ready to rivet the ribs in place. Only a couple of tasks left over to finish the center section.
