One of the tasks that needs to be completed, but is not in the plans is the F-7114 gussets. This span from the F-704 bulkhead to the lower longerons and are held in place (in part) by the wing bolts. The wing bolts are close tolerance for the center section. I tried fitting these before and determine there was not a good fit. See photo one and two. I spoke with Vans concerning this and was told to use a tool like a Dremel and open up the holes on the gussets, but NOT the center section.
EDIT - Discuss this with Vans at the end of Februrary, see entry on 28 Feb 2012. This is not uncommon, they recommend taking a little off the side and enlongating the holes in the gusset.
I opened the holes ever-so-slightly until I got a nice fit. I really did not have to take that much off. I checked the left side, it seems to fit better. I am going wait to drill the longerons until the wings are on. I checked a few other web sites and it seems that several have installed the wings before installing these gussetts.
