Brief Description:  Tail wheel modification - almost done

After the primer work I could then go on with the tail wheel modification. The new F-712 was primered and ready for installation. As you can see from the first image it slid into place, orkay maybe slid is not the right word. But I did get in place with a little massaging. As you can see from the second image, everything appears to line up correctly.

You might also notice there a few copper colored clecoes in the first image. When I was drilling out the rivets to remove the old F-712 a few ended up with a slight oversized hole. They were very close to the correct size, but I decided to drill them to size 4 rivets There is a lot of stress at the tail and I want to make sure this is done well. You wont't be able to see the rivets once the tail is installed and painted anyway.

You can also see the nuts on the bolts going through F-711. The bolts are the right size but the nuts are not the correct nuts. I used these nuts when I was test fitting everything. I will replace and torque them after I finishe riveting F-712.
