Today I worked on the aft portion of the fuselage. The F-712 was removed so the first task was to cut out the F-779 for the tail wheel spring mount. I used my dremel and a cutting wheel to cut out the shape as close as possible. Then using the dremel and a file I slowly made the opening larger to ensure the tail wheel spring fit properly.
The next task was to ensure the everything fit properly. During a trial fit of the tail wheel spring, the F-712 bulkhead and the vertical stabilizer I discovered I had riveted the lower rudder hinge mount (of course I did this thinking I was building a tail wheel, BUT I was suppose to wait until I mounted the tail.) So, I think I will hold off until l talk to Vans on Monday. I want to see is if this is going to be an issue. If so, I will drill out that hinge mount and replace it.
You can see in the second photo the lower two rivets will need to come out. I have already marked them with my awl.
