When I made the clips to attach one of the lower longerons to the firewall flange I DID NOT READ the entire plan. The plans (image 3) show the clip to be made and the rivet locations. I made the clip and drilled the appropriate locations for the rivets. Then I put them in place. As you can see from image 1 and 2, there is no way to see the rivet holes and use them as drilling guides for the longeron and firewall flange. The skin is in the way. Take the skin off, you say. Well the skin is what is holding the longeron in place via clecos. What to do?
Well, I decided I did not want enlongated holes. What is the easiest solution? Make two new clips without the rivet holes. Easy. After testing the fit I will clamp them to the longeron and pull the clip and the longeron out the aircraft for drilling and riveting. When I reinstall the longeron I will drill the firewall and the clip together. This ensures the clip is riveted in the correct location and without risking any enlongated holes.
After that was completed, I fabricated a few more spacers gussetts. I am working twleve days straight, so it will be awhile before I get back to the project.
