Brief Description:  Fitting the firewall

We started by finishing the drilling of the longerons to the F-770 skins. I stopped last time at the F-704 bulkheads on one side, so I still had the right side to finish, After drilling to the F-704 bulkhead, I asked Julie to help hold the longerons in place forward of the F-704 to make sure everything was aligned. Julie held the longerons so they were perfectly aligned while I drilled and clecoed. After that was completed I fabricated the straps that attach the F-704 bulkhead and the longerons. Once the straps were drilled and clecoed in place we moved on to fitting the firewall. To fit the firewall requires clecoing the bottom skin in place. Once that was in place I set the firewall in place and clamped the to the longerons. Everything seems to fit just right, but the plans say to have the flange aligned with the second row of rivet holes in the bottom skin. But that does not make sense to me. I am going to have to re-read this point again before I move on.

Update: After checking several websites, I realize now what the plans were attempting to tell me. The flange on the angle aluminum riveted to the inside of the firewall needs to line up with the second row of rivet holes. Julie and I went back to the hangar and took the firewall off the fuselage, marked a center line on the AA flange and then put the firewall back in place. The plans also have you insert several 470-4-4 rivets to make sure the longeron and skin rivet holes stay aligned. As it will be a week before I get back we did that as well. Sorry, no photos.
