Brief Description:  HS riveting begins

Today I began riveting the HS together. The first step is to rivet the rear spar and its stiffiners together. Because it was easy to reach I started hand squeezing the rivets. But a AN470-4 size rivet takes a toll after a while, so I switched to the rivet gun. I had to drill out one rivet that did not meet the standards, but no over sized hole. I discovered there is / was an additional area to trim away on the rear spar. Its not in the directions, but it is on the plans. You need to trim a portion of the flange so the elevator horn can travel to its downward stop. Some how I missed it. Fortunately I have a Drimel tool that came in real handy in trimming a very small section of the flange. If you look at picture 3, right above the bearing hanger you can see the cut out. After finishing the rear spar the plans have you rivet the front spars together followed by attaching the skin on the left side. Everything went according to the plans. It is very interesting riveting the inner forward rib (part 405) to the skin. I was not sure my arm would fit but it did, barely. I finished riveting that rib and then clecoed the outer rib and the skin in place. That is where I had to leave it today. Another day or two and the HS should be finished,.
