I have been away from this project for six weeks now, thanks to the Army. However, I finally got back to the hanger to continue working on the tail section. Today I finished working on the aft spar and got it ready to rivet. It took about an hour to sit down, read what I had completed before leaving and double checking to make sure I had really finished previous work. The rear spar assembly instructions tell you to cleco and drill the two elevator hinge brackets with the bearing. Then, if desired, deburr and prime the bearing housing. Later in the instructions you are told the only parts requiring priming are the two reinforcement bars. I decide to go ahead and get all the parts for the aft spar ready and primed while priming the bearing housing (see picture 1 and 2.) After completing the aft spar I started on the front spar. During this process I was interrupted a few times by hanger neighbors wondering where I had been. I tried to work and talk at the same time, but that wasn't working very well. I did manage to get the spar channels mated to the reinforcement angle and splice angle (see picture 3.) I also finished the required taper on reinforcement angles. Alll the holes are drilled to size and the center four holes are counter sunk / dimpled as per the directions. I finished up the day by trimming the inboard edges of the front spar. Next I will start on the ribs.
