Brief Description:  Continued rudder work

Today I started working on the rudder support structure. One of the first things that caught me off guard was the fit of the rudder horn. The lower rib for the rudder skin would not fit into its proper position. So I went back, reread the instructions one more time and looked at how things were not fitting together. Everything on this kits fits so well that I just could not figure it out. After several minutes I decided to call Vans. In the mean time I read ahead to seee what came next. Of course in the next few sentences the insturctions specifically stated that the horn needs work to ensure the lower rib fits properly. Never let a comma or a period stop you from reading. You can see in the first picture how much the lower rib was out of alignment and the second picture shows it after working on the horn. I needed to fabricate a shim our of 3/32s which took longer than I anticipated, but work progressed and the structure is clecoed together.
