Brief Description:  Fuselage work - 02

Drilling the elevator horns requires a little extra prep work. To ensure the holes are straight in both horns you have to create a small jig with aluminum, hard wood or some other hard material that fits in between the two horns and has parallel sides. I happened to have a bucking bar that fit perfectly in between both horns. To build the jig I drilled a size #30 through the bar. I thought I had a photo. I will get one next time. EDIT see image 3

The process is to determine which horn sets aft the most and drill the initial hole in that horn. Then slide the jig between the horns and use the hole in the jig to provide alignment for drilling the hole in the other horn. I did all of that without taking any photos. I did take two photos of the horns after I placed the HS and elevators on the aircraft for mounting. It shows the bolt that has been slid in place.
