After installing the bottom cowling fasteners I went back to the cowling. After a lot of thought I have decided to go with hinges on the split line between the upper and lower cowls. Really it came down to a decision based the clean look of the hinge line. I got the hinges out, measured the length needed and cut two hinges.
Using Vans instruction the work went pretty quick. I have the lower hinges marked and ready to drill.
