Brief Description:  Engine controls - 02

I decided on control cable eyeballs for firewall passthroughs. These are steel and I got them at Cleveland tools. First step was to drill a 1 1/8" (what????) hole in the firewall. That was a process going to go wrong from the beginning. But I got it done with a stepper bit (what a mistake) and I ordered a Greenlee 1 1/8" hole punch.

Two days later and after getting the hole cleaned up I decided I needed a better doubler than just the one in the eyeball kit. So I fabricated it out of 0.040, used the Greenlee hole punch to make a corresponding hole; then drilled, deburred, dimpled and riveted the doubler onto the fireall.

Next was attaching the eyeball doubler which is attached (along with everything else) with six screws. Two of the screws hold the doubler in place so you can remove the eyeball and the other four hold the eyeball in place. I need to drill the hole in the eyeball to size, but I will pull it off the firewall for that process.
