Brief Description:  Weekly wingtip and wiring update - 02

When you mount / epoxy the air cooling ramps to the inside cowling you have to drill holes in through the top of the cowling to cleco the ramps in place. These holes needed to be filled and now was the time. I made up extra epoxy when working on the last wing tip and patched the cowling. I slightly enlarged the holes into a cone shape before filling them. One of the problems with filling small holes is skimming. When you push the epoxy into the hole air gets trapped and holds the epoxy just across the surface, skimming it.

I enlarged the holes slightly and filled them with the epoxy micro mix. When I smooth over the top of the holes you could see the trapped air push back creating a bubble. Using a very sharp scribe (a needle might have been better) I shoved the tip into the air pocket. You could see the epoxy collapse as the air escaped. I did this a couple of times, pushing a little more epoxy into the area and poking the air bubble. Will it work? I think so. I will find out when I sand it.

While waiting for epoxy to cure I was back at wiring. There are only a few more systems to wire. Almost time to turn everything on to see if it all works.
