Brief Description:  Snorkle extension

Due to a family medical issue I have not been regularly working on the airplane for the last few weeks. But a few minutes here and there I have been slowly making progress on the snorkle extension to the airbox.

Previsously I have finished the mold and was ready to complete the fiberglass work, soI laid down some wax as a mold release. I cut 9 oz glass into three strips 3" wide and approximately 10" inches long. The final width of the snorkle will be 2" from the aft edge of the forward lip so 3" gave me excess coverage forward and aft for blending. I completed the layup and let it set....for a couple of weeks.

When I finally got back to the hangar I sanded the forward edge of the snorkle to begin blending the new fiberglass with the old. Image one is after the layup dried and image two is after initial blending. After removing foam form inside the cowling I cleaned up the area around it for another layup. Cutting strips of a heavier cloth I laid glass around the inside of the extension to tie it to the inside of the That is currently curing. Once it has setup I will apply a micro solution to the inside of the snorkle to eliminate the rough surface.
