Brief Description:  This week's update

From last week to this week has been interesting. I was happy with my original mockup that moved the airbox over 3/4". However I discovered that moved the mounting plate too far, the attaching bolt heads sat on top of the filter. I made a second mockup moving the airbox over 3/8" which gave me the clearance for the bolt heads.

On Monday I took my 0.063" stock to school. Using their shear I cut a new mounting plate. Monday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon was spent cutting the opening for the carb drain in the aft portion of the airbox. You can see the opening I needed in images two and three. Looks like a graduated pyramid. It looked so bad I couldn't use it on the airplane. So Wednesday I took my 0.063 material back to school and made another plate. I used the school's hole punch to create the large opening and then spent a little time on Thursday and a large chunk of time on Friday getting the openings completed.

Today I:
bent the top plate up 1/4" to align with the top of the cowling opening.
installed the nutplates so the carb mount could bolt to the top plate.
drilled the airbox to the top plate for riveting.

Next is:
fabricating the carb heat valve
making an opening to match for the heated air.
deburring and riveting.
