Brief Description:  The cowling chronicle continues - 04

Went back to the hangar to start the process of installing the Skybolt quarter turn fastners. The first step was to countersink the rivet holes where catch mechanism is riveted. Built a small jig to hold the pieces in place on the drill press, adjusted the counter sink cage and went to work. Moving over to the aircraft I started laying out the right side. I only have enoungh cleco clamps for nine fasteners at a time.

This was made much easier by a posting on VansAirforce.net by Don Jones. Do a search on Skybolt spacing on firewall, you will see why this was very easy to complete. Mine will be slightly different depending on where the cowling side cut line ends up. That will be determined when I have both the top and bottom cowling in place.

First I need to complete the top six of these on the right and the same on the left. Then I can finish cutting the upper cowl and then move to the bottom.
