Brief Description:  Front deck - 07

Worked on a few items today. First I drilled the front deck to the firewall. I had to stop on the way to the shop to get some new drill bits and I dulled one drilling through the stainless steel firewall.

After cleaning that up I went to work on the retention clips that hold the instrument panel in place. Before I started on those I went back to the fit of the panel. It needed to be about 3/32" lower. After removing the panel and clamping it to a workbench, I used a rasp file to slow take material off. After several interations of shaving a little material, remount, remove and repeat; I finally was happy with the results. This had to be done as the panel postion impacts the installation of the retention clips.

On to the retention clips. The top clips (those on top of the canopy decks) were previously fabricated and only needed slight modification for final fit. The side clips needed to be fabricated. The plans called for AA3 .032 3/4x3/4 for the clips, but I only had enough for one clip. I searched around my scrap pile and found some AS3 .032 (that is aluminum sheet) and then fabricate the angle. It took some time but they are done.
