Brief Description:  Tail finish work continues - 07

After riveting the right elevator tip I went to work on the horizontal stabilizer tips. The tips I received from Vans were much larger than required. First thing was to trim the left tip down to a near fit. Using my rivet fan I laid out a rivet pattern and drill the tip in place. Then the fun began. Sanding, sanding and more sanding to get the tip closer and closer to final fit. Some where along the line between arrival and installation I must have dropped the tip. If you look at image one you can see a chip out of the leading edge. As i was sanding that chunk fell out. Not a big problem to fix, it just adds to the process time.

You can see in image two there is 1/8" gap between the elevator and the HS tip. I am pretty sure I will need to enlarge that gap a little. The plans do not give a distance, so I will have to do so more research.

Image three shows the foam dam I cut and inserted in the HS tip. I plan on glassing this over and then chipping this foam dam out. Fun in fiberglass. More to come.
