Brief Description:  Final assembly

It is cold today! I know there are folks where it is below zero, but today it was in the low 30s. My hangar and my body is not ready to work in these temperatures. I did put a 19,000 btu propane heater in the hangar to make it warmer. As long as I stood within four feet life was good.

What I did get accomplish was;

1. put away all the parts and tools I ordered from ACS.
2. installed new bolts and nuts in elevator hinge, torqued to 20/25 in lbs.
3. installed new bolts and nuts that hold the elevator counter weights.

Okay, why replace the bolts. I built the empennage several years ago. I had not torque striped the bolts so I was unsure of the torque value. The first bolt was greater than 25 in lbs so I assumed an overtorque and decided to replace them all. Taking the first counter weight bolt out I am sure they were not over torqued, rather under torqued. Did not matter. I replaced them anyway and made sure they were torqued properly.

Next I will pull the elevators and check the jam nuts on the elevator bearings. Once that is done the elevator goes back on the aircraft.
