There seems to be an endless supply of little projects. Today I focused on two; the rudder stops and the cable fairings. After finalizing the rudder installation I noticed the stops were just a little long. So I slowly removed some of the surface until the measurement was a 1/16th too long. The rudder has a maximum travel of 35 degrees as measured by the distance from the rudder skin to the elevator (1 and 1/8"), with the elevator in the neutral position. I took the rudder stops down to a distance of 1 and 3/16" ; leaving some for a final adjustment when everything is installed and torqued. Next was fitting the cable fairings. Not part of the plans, but they give a little protection and reduced drag by covering the exit hole for the rudder and tail wheel cable.
At that point I took a break. I have been jumping from project to project without a lot of focused direction. I sat down with my clipboard and started taking notes. What needs to be down before I can progress to the next step in the plans; which is systems. Waiting for parts, or waiting for assitance in moving the wings, has made me start and stop different aspects of the build. I am going to spend the tonight and the next day developing a detailed plan of action and checklist so nothing gets left out.
