Brief Description:  Putting the wings on - 05

The only measurement that was not right on the plans is the flap placement. The flap has a small section of skin that, when retracted, is suppose to just touch the bottom of the fuselage. If it doesn't Vans gives you some options. If the flap won't retrack all the way you can cut off the skin or bend the wing spar down slightly. If the skin does not touch the fuselage you can bend the flap skin up slightly or bend the wing spar up slightly. With my aileron in trail and the flap clamped to the aileron my flaps hang 7/16" low. You can see the photo of the flap in image 2 and 3.

I spoke to Vans about my wing measurements (see previous post) and this flap issue. Their comment was my wing measurements are well within tolerance and then some. As for the flap issue I could bend the skin up slightly or I could raise the aft spar slightly to bring the flaps closer to the fuselage. Raising the aft spar is more than it seems. The center section, wing spar and associated bolts have no "wiggle room." There is no adjustment at the wing spar, so to raise the aft spar you must put a slight twist in the wing spar. That just sounds bad. MIght be perfectly fine, but it sounds bad.

I am going with what I have here right now. When the wings are drilled, installed and I am test flying I will revisit this issue. I still have to fabricate and attach the flap pushrods. Drilling rear wing spars tomorrow.
