Today Rod and I managed to squeeze in about three hours on the aircraft. After a bit of manipulation we managed to get the welded roll over bars to fit nicely to the height of the rear canopy hoop but unfortunately the "feet" of the welded assembly were not leve and therefore we had to insert shims to avoid placing the part under tension/stress.
After further manipulation we managed to drill the welded assembly into the rear canopy hoop which solidifies the structure. After de-cleco'ing the forward hoop of the canopy we overlaid the rear canopy and taped it to the side of the fuselage. After we obtained a good fit that also excluded the cracked area we traced a line along the line of the underlying canopy and then cut the traced line with the dremel.
