I decided that I was not happy with the forward canopy tube being directly visible through the canopy (looked a bit cheap). I have seen previous versions on the internet where a few builders have fashioned fibreglass flashings however I do not reallt have the skill, knowledge or inclination to work with fibreglass.
I have a few spare pieces of 0.016 which I have used to create the fairing. I utilised a cardboard layup to create an exact replica of the required flashing. I did not want to completely lose forward downward visibility and therefore I inserted a window into the portion where the front canopy hoop creates a triangle between the canopy arm and the instrument panel. On the mock up versions displayed below it appears to work well and, I believe, enhances the appearance of the aircraft.
