Brief Description:  Cowling paint part 2

Continuing from the first installment (Dec 2017), I have been steadily progressing the 3-color paint scheme developed 8 months ago. The work has taken place in the basement over the winter (garage is unheated), and must now continue on the fuselage itself while warmer weather persists.

I fabricated a ellipsoid template on butcher paper, which allowed me to tape off the fuselage area that needs to be prepped for paint. Immediately after acid-prep, the grey latex primer is applied the whole area. Then new lines are redrawn and taped for the various layers.

I wish I could be sure the paint will hold up, but time will tell if this prep method gives good results. In principle, sanding and etching is the best one could hope for, but aluminum is notoriously tough to bond to. I guess we'll see, and I can always easily touch up any parts that start to flake off.
