Brief Description: Lower cowling attach and airbox: part 2
Here are some details on the filter retainer box. This took me a few tries to get exactly right. It is again patterned after the same product offered by the Wesemans, and needs to be fairly precisely constructed to fit closely over the filter. Though the triangular shape is relatively easy to construct, the geometry ultimately puts pressure on the front and back of the filter, which had a tendency to arch the flexible filter up in the center. To have the box apply unifom pressure on the entire filter surface, I fashioned a gasket with silicone, using a plexiglass blank cut to the same dimensions as the filter flange. Image 3 shows how the filter sits on that gasket.
