Brief Description:  avionics troubleshooting Part 1

Exciting times. With most of the mechanical items on the to do list behind me, it was finally time to turn on all the devices to see whether all my diligence had led to a flawlessly executed avionics system. Spoiler alert...it didn't.

I started by double checking the power connections on all the avionics before I slid them into their respective trays...no sense frying any of these on start-up. All checked 'OK'.

Let's start with the good news: the intercom and radio worked as previously tested, and I correctly configured the EFIS to send frequencies to the unit. With a remote swap switch, I was able to select a waypoint on the EFIS map, open the frequencies, send one of them to the standby window on the GTR200, and press 'swap' to bring it to the transmit window...alll without touching the radio knobs. This is a pretty nice feature in both VFR and IFR environments.

I then spent about 7 hours in front of the panel going through set up menus of the other three boxes: EFIS, TT31 Txpndr, and the Garmin GPS400W (a GNS430 without the COM and NAV functionality).

These gave me no joy, and I had to reach out to GRT staff for help....
