So I finally got down to tidying the wires behind the radio stack. Image 1 is a shot along the top of the firewall from the pilot's side to the co-pilot's side. There are only between 3 and 4" behind the GPS unit and the firewall, so not a lot of room to move things around, but after taking a few hours to separate the power and ground wires (red and black) from the data transfer wires (white) the nest of wires finally got some sense of order. The avionics tray slid in with little resistance, and then I went underneath to tie wires to one another for mutual support (Image 2). It's not as perfect as the avionics pros do, but much of my mes is due to overly long 'service' loops that I thought were important to allow removal of the tray without disconnecting the wires. In essence, every connector can be brought to the front of the panel for servicing, without having to go under the panel. So I have a few feet of extra wire back there, and it's not quite as clean an install as I'd like but I'm
