The two trays seen here on the right are for the SL-30 and Trig Mode-s/ADS-B out transponder. The SL-30 is an incredibly useful unit, with standby frequency monitoring, and VOR, LOC, and ILS reception capability. More than enough for VFR flight, and adequate for IFR flight with the aforementioned Sporty's handheld as a backup nav/comm radio. Why not a GTN650? Well, I've left room for that if it should be needed one day, but for right now, I simply can't justify the cash ($10K) for it, especially with the included GPS in the EFIS. True, I won't be able to shoot approaches into the vast array of airports than have RNAV plates, but until the VORs and localizers are truly decomissioned, I think I'll take my chances.
