Brief Description:  Panel Cutouts part 1

It has always been my intent to cut most of the 0.032" material out and install 0.062" panel covers with screws and nutplates. I feel that this provides for the easiest access to the entire panel (especially behind the panel) once all the rivets have been installed.

From the images below you can see the principle avionics I've selected: The EFIS is a GRT Sport with a 8.4" display. Snug fit, but it's almost as if it was meant to be there. I chose the GRT primarily due to the 'look' and graphical (2:1 split view) representation of the EFIS and HSI displays. I want the aircraft to be IFR capable, and I feel the display on this unit will be easiest to fly behind. The display is also compatible with the TRIG ADS-B out transponder I've selected, which will be needed fairly soon after I get this thing in the air. The built-in GPS and moving map allows the traffic to be easily visualized. For $2600, inclusing a factory wiring harness, I thought the value here is undeniable. Incidentally, what you see here is a dummy-box from GRT that I am 'renting' until I am ready for the treal thing.

In the center is the airpass compass. I'm hoping I'll be able to compensate adequately for other magnetic devices nearby. I guess we'll see. Below the compass are planned IFR back-up instruments, consisting of a Trutrak electric turn and bank, and a 2.25" sensitive altimeter. If the EFIS goes T/U, these two and the compass will keep me upright and out of trouble. A handheld Sporty's will then be pulled out to get me somewhere VFR. I have to admit, I don't plan on serious IMC flying, but I wouldn't mind having the freedom to file through a low ceiling at departure.
