Brief Description:  New Rudder horn

Been procrastinating fixing this: the rudder horn (built by the previous builder) was not positioned perpendicular to the centerline of the rudder, so when it came time to install and measure side-to-side travel, there was noticeably more travel on one side than the other. Not sure it would have made a difference in use, as flyers claim the prescribed 25 degrees is more than enough for the Rebel. Nevertheless, it was enough to annoy me, so I ordered some 0.1875" 2024-T4 material ($37 including shipping, and enough material for 2 horns) and 6 hours later, I had a really nice reproduction of the original rudder horn (Image 1). While some may note that it might have been simpler to purchase one from Murphy, they wanted $55 (+ shipping+$10 handling) and it would have come with the attach holes pre-drilled. Since I needed a blank that would allow me to attach the horn at a different angle, the Murphy product was a non-starter.

Image 2 shows the two horns, superimposed to show the relatively minor change; about 4-5 degrees which, I admit, was somewhat surprising to me, since I recalled need for about 7 or so degrees while attached to the plane. Trust me, the rudder stop bushings and the final fit will prove that this was worthwhile.
