Brief Description:  Elevator Trim Part 1: wire routing

As I'm working on electrical stuf, I decided to tackle the routing of the elevator trim cable that goes from front to back of the aircraft. This cable houses 5 wires. Two are power, the three others are for the trim servo position sensors.

Not sure how many others decided to do it this way, but I made use of the exisiting holes in the bulkheads that allow the stringers to pass through them. Small sections of this flexible grommet material (McMaster) were inserted into each bulkhead (yes, I even made it into the last one, crawling all the way back into the tailcone). Then, between bulkheads, I installed these nifty push-through zip-tie mounts to hold the cable on top of the stringer (Again, McMaster). Not cinching any zip-ties down yet until I'm certain I have all the wiring finalized.

Thinking I should lay down at least one set of miscellaneous power wires, just in case I need ship's power back here. I've been contemplating a network of cameras for shooting videos of my adventures and it sure would be nice not to have to worry about batteries all the time. See something interesting? Press record and save it from every angle on the on-board DVR. Download the footage later. Low voltage HD POV cameras are so inexpensive these days, it just seems cumbersome to buy a GoPro for every interesting angle on your plane. These miniature POV cameras will point out of any nook and cranny. Have one on the tail, under the tail, each wingtip facing forward, each wingtip facing cabin. Pressing record would collect footage from all 6...choose the best footage later. You can get the whole thing for less than the price of a new GoPro. Probably a project for after I get it flying, though first flights would be nice to record too.
