The baggage compartment needs a divider to prevent lose items from sliding back in the fuselage, something which could lead to a potentially fatal weight and balance condition. Most tend to fabricate something out of fabric, but I wanted something that could withstand some bumps while unloading/loading larger items like folding bikes or camping equipment.
I was inspired by Roger Hoffman's fabrication description: http://tincantimes.dcsol.com/RebelBulkhead.htm
His finished installation was apparently 4 lbs which is pretty light, but watching a lot of youtube videos on fiberglass composite structures (and having a lot of fiberglass and epoxy left over from my kayak fabrication 13 years ago) I thought I would give this construction method a try.
So I purchased some .5" foam sheet from Lowes' aviation department, and used the template to shape a solid foam bulkhead. Inspired by an EAA homebuilder's video on 'diy pre-preg' glass work, I bought some 3Mil plastic sheeting and made a sandwhich big enough to hold 2 layers of glass (Image 3)
